Summary

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one。 The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star。 The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher。 It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey。 The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed。

But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human。 As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes。 The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days。 The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress。 The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast。

And then someone turns up dead。 Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

A page turner, but ultimately disappointing。 Maybe count it as a beach read? I’ve read this for a book club and I do have a few things to say about it, so in that sense it does have some merit! Decent intrigue at the start, but that was quickly drowned out by how awful each character is。 That may be the point, that everyone is horrible in their own way and this creates the perfect storm for the events, but I just don’t revel in reading about miserable people。 It’s just not fun in the way I feel A page turner, but ultimately disappointing。 Maybe count it as a beach read? He’s married or manslaughtered a sibling for EACH of these women?I missed the spooky atmospheric elements from the beginning, too。 Like mayyybe we could have a vague implication that there was some curséd cosmic big purpose for all these furious women to converge on this island? As a treat?I did like how time was organized throughout, and I was rapt when character chapters started catching up to the blackout and ending with its start。 。。。more

A quick and simple read but lacks any real tension and intrigue。

Rosie Boardman

Some surprising twists and turns, but the ending was a little bit flat。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book had a few plot inconsistencies but was overall super enjoyable。 I appreciated that it wasn’t a female victim in the end, which is always the case in murder mysteries。 This would make a great movie if shot on location in Ireland and I can definitely picture Katie McGrath as Jules。

A bit overhyped。 Didn’t really feel like a shocking ending

I enjoyed this audiobook immensely。 A murder mystery set in the Aran Islands off the coast of Ireland, accessible only by boat through constant high seas。 I did that trip in 2013 and it wasn’t fun。 But the book is。 It’s told by a variety of people involved in a wedding taking place on the island and in the audiobook there are several different people who do the reading。 I strongly recommend this selection, it’s well written and performed with panache。

Idy

It’s a short enough book to be motivated to keep turning the pages

Gretchen

Hard for me to get into it at first because of all the different characters。 I’m glad I stuck with it though。 Surprise ending。

So many twists!

I was pulled right into this and was compelled throughout。。。。。even as the twists and turns unfurled and not all were totally unexpected, I couldn't stop listening to the audio book。 I was compelled by many of the cast of characters and appreciated the pace of storytelling! This was a really great, modern take on the classic whodunnit。 The character development was fantastic with a cast that you hated to love and loved to hate。 The alternating POVs (some reliable, some less so) left you on excellent cliffhangers every few pages and kept you engaged the whole time。 I wasn’t sure I’d like this book at first, but it turned out to be really enjoyable。 It’s quick, fun, and gives you just enough information to make you work and feel accomplished when you guess the right This was a really great, modern take on the classic whodunnit。 The character development was fantastic with a cast that you hated to love and loved to hate。 The alternating POVs (some reliable, some less so) left you on excellent cliffhangers every few pages and kept you engaged the whole time。 I wasn’t sure I’d like this book at first, but it turned out to be really enjoyable。 It’s quick, fun, and gives you just enough information to make you work and feel accomplished when you guess the right answers towards the end。 I will definitely be checking out more if this author’s work! 。。。more

I enjoyed this book。 Kept me interested the entire time。 Highly recommended。

I loved this book。 I listened to it on audiobook in just a few days and every time I had to turn it off, I was talking about it。 I recommend the audiobook specifically。 It has a cast of about 5 narrators all of whom are AMAZING。 I can't wait to read The Hunting Party as soon as it's available in my library app。 I loved this book。 I listened to it on audiobook in just a few days and every time I had to turn it off, I was talking about it。 I recommend the audiobook specifically。 It has a cast of about 5 narrators all of whom are AMAZING。 I can't wait to read The Hunting Party as soon as it's available in my library app。 。。。more

Really liked this one ! Took a little while to get into at first with the different POVs but it all came together。 Easy read - finished in two days。

I devoured this book in a weekend。 It was atmospheric, suspenseful, a true page-turner。 I loved how psychological it was and how the author wove each character's perception of themselves (and others) to effect some haunting, character-driven storytelling。 It was a thrilling ride。 I devoured this book in a weekend。 It was atmospheric, suspenseful, a true page-turner。 I loved how psychological it was and how the author wove each character's perception of themselves (and others) to effect some haunting, character-driven storytelling。 It was a thrilling ride。 。。。more

Eerie vibes all around! Which I’m always a fan of。 There was the perfect number of POVs here in my option for a mystery - I was never left thinking “wait who is that again??”, and the author always subtitled the chapter headings with the character’s name and relation to the bride / groom in the story。 The ending was so well written。 And explained so well - no loose threads。 I did see a few things coming, but was still caught off guard!

The most perfect murder mystery I’ve read in a while。 So many twists and turns that I audibly gasped in multiple occasions。 Pure perfection。

Allison

Enjoyed the twists in this one!

This was a quick read and interesting enough if you can suspend your disbelief that literally every character has some ties to everyone else, despite this taking place in a country other than one that the main characters are from。 It’s a bit silly。 But I have it 3 stars because the descriptions of the Irish countryside and Atlantic Ocean were beautiful。 10/10 for setting, 3/10 for characters and plot。

DJ

A bit quirky but I did enjoy it。
